If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take:
- We’re right across the street from the Whitmore Library! Just cross Fort Union Blvd from the library and we’re at 2180 Fort Union Blvd.
- If you’re not familiar with the library’s location, we’re also very close to the post office. Go south on 2300 E to Fort Union, turn right, and then turn left into our parking lot.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
The roots of Cottonwood Heights stretch back to 1849 when eight pioneering families settled the area then known as Union. Jehu Cox, a notable early settler, generously donated ten acres of his farm for the establishment of a community fort. This land would eventually evolve into what are now parts of Cottonwood Heights, Midvale, and Sandy.
Historically, the area developed with the creation of Butler and Union Precincts in 1877, which marked the beginnings of local governance. This period also saw the establishment of Butler School District 57 and Union School District 23, preceding the formation of the Unified Jordan School District in 1905. The local economy thrived on industries such as the Deseret News’ Cottonwood Paper Mill, along with sand and gravel pits, mining, and various forms of farming. Post-World War II, the shift from agriculture to residential housing began, marked by the construction of the first subdivisions between 1953 and 1955.
As the population grew, reaching 5,000, more schools and community facilities like Butler Middle School, Brighton High School, and the Whitmore Branch Library were established. By the late 1990s, the push for cityhood gained momentum, leading to Cottonwood Heights’ incorporation on January 14, 2005, as a response to the community’s desire for self-governance.
